Tell me a story

The "Raconte-moi une histoire" project was initiated in the fall of 2017 in the territories of LaSalle, Lachine and Verdun, thanks to our volunteer readers. Children enrolled in our home support program corresponded with each other, never having seen each other before, and wrote to each other once a month, in order to build a story with several voices... At the end of the school year, the little correspondents met and got to know each other at our big annual party!

Since then, the project has been repeated in a slightly different form: it has been carried out in the daycare services of targeted schools in Lachine, LaSalle and Verdun, to develop the writing and reading comprehension skills of children in the 2nd and 3rd grades of elementary school.

After two readings given by our facilitators and the educators of the groups concerned, the children are invited to express themselves on the themes covered and the elements they particularly remembered and liked, or not. Then, each child in the group completes a written correspondence booklet for another child in another group with whom they are paired. And so on through 7 weekly meetings. At the end of the project, an eighth meeting is organised at the library in each neighbourhood, with a professional storyteller, so that the little pen pals can meet in the flesh!



Multilingual Kamishibai

In 2019, JAME participated for the first time in the "multilingual kamishibai" competition organised by DULALA!

Volunteer readers from the Lachine, LaSalle and Verdun sectors created a multi-voice story with their little readers, with drawings to support it! The story was unveiled at our end-of-year party in June 2019.

In 2020, JAME had started to work on this project in the reception class at the Poppy School. Unfortunately, the pandemic forced us to stop our classroom activities, while the children in Madame Camille's class were inventing the fabulous story of Robert, the fighting fish who lost his memory...
